South Cemetery Walk Event
Portrayed Harwinton Citizens of the Past

After having a self-guided walk available for several years, a Cemetery Walk with live portrayals was once again planned by the Harwinton Historical Society Program Committee. Extensive research into the biographies of the portrayed individuals detailing historical events combined with intriguing trivia within the context of the era set the background for these impressive actors to showcase their talent and receiving outstanding reviews. More than 100 attended the event at South Cemetery on the afternoon of October 12, 2024.

The walk featured costumed portrayals of nine Harwinton residents of the past. A huge round of applause to our actors and actresses; researchers; and members who volunteered at the event!

Many thanks to donations from local businesses: Harwinton Dunkin’ for donating 6 dozen donuts and 200 Munchkins, BJs for a $50 gift card used to purchase cider, and Market 32 for a $25 gift card used for miscellaneous supplies.

HHS members researched 8 out of the 9 of the residents portrayed, and Program Committee members wrote 7 out of the 9 scripts; and a Girl Scout working for her Girl Scout Gold Award for researching a portrayal and writing 2 scripts. After verifying information and compiling the scripts, the HHS Program Committee recruited five community adults (HHS members and friends) for portrayals, and the Girl Scout recruited four Region 10 student actresses.

Scripts of the 9 residents portrayed on October 12 are available in the mailbox at the entrance of South Cemetery on South Road for a self-guided walk, as is a fun Icon Scavenger Hunt to enjoy from sunrise to sunset!
