December 5 Happy Holidays in December- Italy and Harwinton
Mariann Millard returns . . . by popular request. She will educate and entertain participants about December holiday traditions in Italy. While Italy is a relatively young, unified country, its festive celebrations have been influenced for centuries by different religious and secular practices by its inhabitants, which have left their indelible mark on the month of December. The program is designed to be engaging and intriguing to peak curiosity, solemnity and the fun factor on how Italy delightfully embraces the last month of the calendar year with gusto.
Mariann Millard is a Licensed Washington, DC Guide and a certified Tour Director who specializes in Italy. She thoroughly enjoys entertaining folks with her love of history to connect people, places and things. Her extensive travel throughout her life has given her a keen appreciation for what makes us human and for the differences that makes us culturally unique.
The HHS collection includes fascinating accessions that relate to the month of December. Come see displays including beautiful cards, paintings by Major Hornbostel, poems/writings (including Lois Lenski’s), an outfit sent home by a soldier, books, toys, and more!
To make our evening extra special, if you would like to share a treat (and/or recipe) from your heritage, please e-mail harwhistsoc@gmail.org. Thank you!
- The program is free and open to the public. *
